Marseille : Marrakech

Sister Cities: Marseille, France + Marrakech, Morocco

Gazing at a map, the distance between France and Morocco appears to be little more than a hop-skip over Spain. Despite their relative proximity, however, these countries have quite a few differences. Language, religion, and politics divide them on many levels–so what pushed Marseille and Marrakech to walk together into Sister Citihood? We can’t say for certain, though we had a great time designing something special for their elective union. Our “Marseille : Marrakech” pattern combines Provence’s symbolic cigale (cicada) with Morocco’s intricate, centuries-old tile work.

What are Sister Cities?

Sister Cities and Twin Towns are voluntary alliances made between different regions of the world. These affiliations can be comedic (Dull, Scotland is paired with Boring, Oregon), as well as political, linguistic, economic, artistic, historic, diplomatic, or simply created to promote better cross-cultural understanding.
